Tantric Art : Ayé Khandro Thangka

A-yé Khandro Tsé-drüp Déchen Lhamo (A ye ’mKha’ ’gro Tshe grub bDe chen lha mo) was the younger of the two sisters who were the sangyums of Aro Yeshé. The older sister was called A-shé Khandro. The two girls were childhood friends of Aro Yeshé and they were given all the transmission which Khyungchen Aro Lingma gave to Aro Yeshé.

Tantric Art : Black Ögyen Chenrezigs

Ögyen Chenrézigs Yab-yum (o rGyan sPyan ras gZigs nak po yab yum) is a form of Padmasambhava and Yeshé Tsogyel in union manifesting as the yidam of compassion. They each hold a conch. They hold crystal teng’ars in their right hands, and green lotuses bearing crystal tsé-gu dorjes. He is black and wears emerald-green robes. A raven flies above his head. She is black with flame-coloured hair. She wears lapis lazuli ornaments and sings with a voice like a shang.

Rays of the Sun - Illustrating Reality

We are very happy to announce the publication of 'Rays of the Sun' by Ngak'chang Rinpoche.
'Rays of the Sun' brings together three booklets that were very popular in the 1980s and an article that appeared in Caduceus magazine. The chapters cover the topics of the four noble truths, eightfold path, karma, kindness and refuge. Tantric Art : Rang-rig Togden Thangka

Rang-rig Togden had been a wandering gÇodpa until meeting with Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér, but she instructed him in the practices of Dzogchen long-dé which she had received from her aunt Jomo Chhi’mèd Pema, and after that he had several visions of Yeshé Tsogyel, Tashi Chhi’drèn and Mandarava. They practised all their lives in caves and spent almost all their elder years in retreat.

Tantric Art : Ögyen Dzambhala Thangka

Ögyen Dzambhala is shown here as Nor’kyong Chenpo – the great wealth protector. He carries the mongoose which issues countless jewels and gZi stones from its mouth and lower gate. This is a powerful testament to the real nature of wealth as the transcendence of the ‘pure / impure dichotomy’. Ögyen Dzambhala’s khatvangha is his secret inner wisdom nature – Yeshé Tsogyel in her manifestation as Nor-chen Pamo. The five-coloured garuda flies from the tip of Ögyen Dzambhala’s golden vajra in display of the self-liberated nature of the elements. Ögyen Dzambhala is clothed in floral armour which symbolises the strength of needing no protection – his wealth is self-existent and cannot be removed. His territory is indestructible because he has no need to own it. His territory is increasingly vast because he continually gives it away to all beings.

Tantric Art : Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér Thangka

Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér Dri’mèd Yingma (Jo mo pad ma ’od zer dri ’med dByings ma – Lady Lotus Light Rays in Immaculate Space, 1839-1902) was an incarnation of Tashi Chhi’drèn (mon mo bKra shis khyi’dren). Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér’s sang-yab or spiritual consort was Rang-rig Togden, and together, they were the mother and father of Khyungchen Aro Lingma. Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér and Rang-rig Togden were therefore the grandparents of Aro Yeshé.

Jomo Menmo was the incarnation of Ma-gCig Labdron. She was born in the male earth monkey year of 1248 and passed into the sky-dimension in 1283.

Tantric Art : Dorje Tröllö Thangka

Ngak’chang Rinpoche says of Dorje Tröllö:
"Dorje Tröllö is the master of crazy wisdom. Crazy Wisdom is Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s translation, and it has thus been taken up by most people as the most suitable rendition of the term. Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche expands this further by saying that it is ‘the wisdom gone wild’"

"Some people in recent times have misunderstood this term – confusing it for any mode of buffoonery that comes to mind. I would hazard the guess that this was far from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s intention. The Tibetan phrase of which Crazy Wisdom is a translation is yeshé ’cholwa (ye shes ’hol ba) ‘Ye’ means ‘primordial’, and ‘shes’ means ‘knowing’ – therefore yeshé means primordial wisdom or uncreated knowingness."

Tantric Art : Aro Lingma Thangka

Aro Lingma (1886-1923) was born in the fire-dog year in Mar-Kham – the southern region of Kham in Eastern Tibet. She was named Yeshé Zértsal by her parents – Jomo Pema ’ö-Zér and Rang-rig Togden. Khyungchen Aro Lingma was the name she received from Yeshé Tsogyel as an aspect of the gTérma she received in pure vision in her early twenties.
